Insanity Defined
At some point in our lives, we all have heard insanity defined as doing the same thing repeatedly but expecting different results. A more literal definition would be “extreme foolishness; folly; senselessness; foolhardiness” (Dictionary.com). I would agree that the definition we have become accustomed to meets the more literal definition found at Dictionary.com when it comes to teaching our alternative students. Our problem does not lie in our ability to define insanity, but rather in our inability to change direction. In my opinion, that rings true in alternative education.
Insanity in Teaching
A prime example of this is found in the way that we teach in our classrooms. Oh sure, we have been to amazing conferences and have heard countless awesome speakers and presentations, recommending different and “alternative” ways to teach our students. We get very excited about all these NEW ideas that are shared and say that we will incorporate them into our classrooms. But then what happens? We go back to our classrooms and go right back to the way that we have always done things. Many times, we want to implement changes, but then…well, we get busy, or things come up, or your program is shorthanded, or you can’t find the time to enact new changes. We at Centric Learning know because we have been those educators, presenters, and conference attendees!
Stop the Insanity
It’s time to stop the insanity. It’s time to stop using teaching methods and online solutions that simply do not work! There, that was easy! Now, the time for actual implementation can take its course and we are here to help you every step of the way!
If you find any of the below to be accurate, then it is time to try Project-Based Learning:
- You have low attendance in your classrooms
- Your students aren’t being engaged enough
- The online solution you use simply requires guessing at answers
- Your students are Googling answers or using AI
- Your students aren’t LEARNING
The “Un-Insanity” Process
The first step is to schedule a no-obligation demo with us to see exactly what a PBL platform looks like. We are more than happy to show you what a student sees on their dashboard, how a teacher can set that up properly for him/her, and how administration can easily track results! If cost is an issue (and let’s face it, budgets are a concern), just know that Centric Learning works with all types of grants and funding to help you make PBL a reality in your classroom.
Conclusion
I will leave you with powerful quote from a brilliant man, Benjamin Franklin. He stated, “”Tell me and I will forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn.” That, in essence, is what Project-Based Learning does for students! It involves critical thinking, real-life practices, creativity, and collaboration. Make the change for YOUR students today!
