Yet too often, school asks them to leave that world at the door. Place-based, interdisciplinary STEM challenges that old paradigm. It invites students to learn through the landscapes they know, connect content across disciplines, and solve problems that matter to their families and communities.
About the Author: Dr. Angela McDaniel is a West Virginia–based educator, curriculum designer, and program coordinator for the STEAM Technical Assistance Center at West Virginia University. With 30 years of experience in STEM and project-based learning, she creates inclusive, hands-on learning experiences that empower students from all backgrounds to see themselves as innovators and problem solvers.

Siobhan (pronounced Shove-On) currently works as a Business Development Specialist and English Evaluator for Centric Learning. With over 20 years working in education, Siobhan’s experience as an educator spans English classroom and department leadership, literacy development across the curriculum, academic intervention and testing support, while working in schools within the U.S. and abroad. Now, Siobhan leverages her experience and expertise to foster partnerships and expand access to innovative learning solutions as part of the Centric Sales team. Siobhan continues to look forward to building relationships and collaborating to enhance educational opportunities.
